Today Casey is putting a new-to-him tractor and a 6-foot Firminator to work planting a brassica strip plot.
After years of a switchgrass buffer creeping into the field, he spent the summer spraying it back and reclaimed roughly 18 feet of planting space. Now he’s putting that recovered ground back to work with a straight brassica blend Big Tine Main Event.
He’ll walk through the Massey Ferguson 2860 M, why the 60-horsepower tractor and 6-foot Firminator make a great combination for moving from farm to farm, and how he’s preparing the soil with minimal disturbance. With a little moisture in the ground and rain in the forecast, conditions are looking ideal for getting this brassica plot established. It’s been about six years since we’ve had a good brassica field, so we’re excited to see what this little strip can add to the farm.
